I'd love to see Apple displace Google Maps on their iOS devices. That would be a major blow to Google and a major win for Apple and their iAd product. The more you tie maps into adverts the more personalized those adverts become. The more successful marketing campaigns. Apple can take iAds to the next level.
It would hardly affect Google that much since Apple (who writes the Maps application on iOS currently even though it uses Google services) doesn't really use any of the Maps services that Google uses to generate revenue. If Apple included Google Places, I would understand your argument. As it is, Apple provides such a basic set of maps features that Google really will not lose anything if Apple switches providers (or becomes the provider).

God I hate Notes- it's an operating system on top of an operating system. It's databases are just a step up from Access and to be honest - it's a pig.
I've been forced to use the piece a crap for over 5 years (I'm a consultant) and it had brought me great pleasure to help large scale enterprises move away from this overstuffed piece of crap.
Is Exchange any better - yes and no - in general they both are crappy. The biggest advantage of Notes is that their CALs (licenses) are so cheep compared to Exchange/Outlook.
When I start looking for a new job - the first question I'll ask is which Universal Messaging Platform have you deployed in your Enterprise? If they answer "Notes" I'll know the following about their organziation:
1. They care more about the dollar than about usability and employee satisfaction
2. The VP of IT is probably sleeping with the IBM rep
3. The business only uses it because they don't know any better (they've been there too long and have never used anything other than Notes and AOL).
4. They think that Notes databases are cool and hip and truly believe Access is an enterprise level database
5. And finally, they are so damn stupid they probably have Lotus 123 and Word Perfect as their "Office Suite"
"Save me lord from these fools"
Incredibly well thought out comments. You should pat yourself on the back. I especially enjoyed this gem:
3. The business only uses it because they don't know any better (they've been there too long and have never used anything other than Notes and AOL).
That embodies ignorance. It is in fact, just the opposite, more companies use exchange because it's already there and they don't know any better, not to mention that MS practically forces you to use it and they attempt to make it so easy that a baboon could set it up. Notes is good if implemented properly, better than exchange for what it's designed for. I have a feeling you just wanted to flame, so I'm just going to ignore you from now on.
Toodles.

I think the free 38 character engraving is one of the things that makes this product so special. Buying one without it seems to devalue it's significance to me.
Examples of cool engravings would be:
Reward 4 Return 555.555.6789 Taylor B.
Frank Ford 555.555.6789 Please Return
Always in my thoughts. Love, Fred

I have an old iBook G4 and it tells me that no battery is installed even when there is a working battery in place, anyone have any clue to what is up?
Your battery is probably F-ed. Honestly, I can't believe it has lasted this long.

Why do you need to disable something you don't want to use? Can't you just not use it?
Are you afraid you might accidentally change your mind someday and need to prevent yourself from doing this in the future?
Also, many BBS's that I use offer me the chance to change the text-reply field size in my personal preferences. The window can be any size and the page looks just fine. Pretty much ANY text entry field has to be built into a page in such a way that changing the size just pushes things below it lower, just in case a browser draws it larger than planned. I can't think of any sites that don't work that way. This box I'm using on Macrumors right now follows that rule. If I were to drag it large nothing would "break." The stuff below it would just move down.
Can you give any examples of a page that fails this test? I can't think of any offhand.
I think he's talking about making it so people who use the web pages he designs can't resize the textareas (supposedly ruining his designs). IMHO this is a non-issue since when the user first sees the page they will se it as it should be, if they want to make a textarea bigger so they can type in it comfortably then it's their own choice.

well, i'd just pop Photoshop open for the task. but free programs? not sure...
What you maybe could do with GraphicConverter (I haven't used it in forever, so i'm not sure what it can do) is make your whole photo grayscale, then bring in parts of the photo (a copy, rather) in color and paste them over top...

We all knew it was matter of time before edesign was promoted. After the dozen paged thread about him who could refuse? :D
Well I can only dream of achieving the moderator status. Maybe in 2 years Arn will give me a shot. Its always good to start kissing up now.
In that case...
Congrats to all! And if you want someone to kiss your feet....
...look somewhere else.
But if my stuff starts to disapear, then I'll have to reconsider. :)
I've seen some other forums, but this forum definatly is the best in terms of mod friendly-ness, etc. And their quite efficient here, too. Plus our mods have cooler sounding usernames...

To prove false advertisement, you must be able to prove certain facts to be true. There are 5 requirements. The first one is the relevant fact to this case.
That being....a false statement of fact has been made about the advertiser's own or another person's goods, services, or commercial activity.
The seller stated what he was selling in the auction. That disqualifies this requirement.
No prosecutor in this country would even offer this case to a grand jury.
Yes....I think this is legal.
think what you want ... this is not going to court for a prosecutor ... this is an illegal eBay listing and will be resolved by eBay and PayPal

I'm simply stating the point that I don't understand how people can keep debating this "issue" when there are CLEARLY more important things to talk about. I think because Apple is so successful they get picked on by the media and other Company's seem to get a free pass.
...And just because I have "newbie" next to my name doesn't mean I don't know how forums work buddy.
"Buddy" I didn't even notice your join date nor do I care.
There are more important things to talk about than a white iPhone - yet there are threads upon threads.
For one - this is an Apple community - not a Sony one.
Second - Starting to deflect the issue by comparing it to Sony is taking the thread off topic.
No one's getting a free pass.

2010 (or late-model when I actually get it) green Viper ACR.
The world's biggest Viper dealer is up here about 45mins away from me. Woodhouse is THE place to go if you want to buy, or just gawk at, a ton of sweet Vipers. They're one of Dodge's biggest clients in the motorsports world, and expanded that to the street cars. Pretty sweet place. I bought my Talon from them years ago, and got to see The Viper Pit, as they call it. It is a sight to behold....

You are obviously missing the point. Apple's new subscription model is preventing choice from coming to it's customers. How is that not a bad thing?
How many people here want to choose to get tons of junk mail delivered to their house?
Raise your hand if you'd take that option.
Serious quesion. If most posters here raise their hands then I'll shut up and say you were right.

I'm sure this data will be coming to a Keynote near you.
The trend is your friend, and unless Apple can turn it around, the trend is clearly moving toward a marginalization of iOS.
