Maybe Apple's improving - the last two PBs I owned had their MOTHERBOARDs recalled. Now its just my battery.
Yep, I'm affected - web site was slow but accepted my serial, confirmed my recall status, and then asked me for my address.
I have a PBG4 15" 1.67ghz (SD 01/2006 model) purchased 10/06 as a refurb.
I don't think this will hurt Apple, but it will hurt Sony big time.

Why would you buy a huge HDD iPod, when you could get an iPhone or an iPod touch?
I've got an iPhone and a classic.
The classic is used almost every day solely for playing music. The iPod app on my iPhone is only used once in a blue moon.
I just think the classic is a much better music player and I'll carry on using them as long as I can. :)

What's the vibe on this update for people who haven't had any RSS problems so far, and whose machines haven't been in for service at all???
I'm tempted to do it anyway, to stave off the possibility that it might eventually go to **** in a couple months (a la people whose week 19 machines have been fine till yesterday kinda thing), but then that old saying "if it ain't broke don't fix it" pops into my mind...
I've got a week 18 BlackBook, no problems at all, never a random shutdown after both the 1.0 and 1.1 firmware updates.
The 1.0 raised my idling temp to around 54 and the 1.1 update pushed it up to about 56 but other than that no problems.

Charging decisions are made by people, including police and prosecutors. A discussion about the likelihood of committing a crime is only about claims about racial differences. I'm not aware of any legitimate study that any race is more or less likely to commit crimes.
Neither am I. This is not about any race, as in all black people in the world. This is about people who reside in London, England. Just because the crime statistics of a limited geographic area don't fit your world of political correctness, it doesn't mean they are incorrect as in inconsistent with reality.
Criminology and Legal Sociology can be interesting, but only as long as there is a fair and open approach to the subject.
As a former public defender I will respond on behalf of all the court appointed attornies out there. Bite me.
I rest my case.

I really hope Apple makes some changes, anyone who has developed or listren to developers knows what a stupid process this is to get an app approved.

I just called two of my local Radio Shack's here in NYC and both said that I would be REQUIRED to purchase AppleCare AND a case if I wanted to buy an iPad 2 tomorrow morning. That is ******** and hopefully Apple won't allow it.
Retail stores are free to do what they want as long as they don't advertise under the Apple MSRP. Don't like it? Don't buy....

This firmware update seems like a good thing, but I'm just afraid of the computer shutting down even though it supposedly ignores temp readings. I tried running the hardware diagnostic, and guess what. The MacBook still shut down- multiple times while trying to run the test. I was unable to get the diagnostic to run at all. Should I just call Apple up and start demanding answers and taking no prisoners? Or should I be more sly about it? I'm just starting to get pissed off at what I thought was a great computer company.
Just do it, have some faith. It is the best update I ever did. My mac does not shut down anymore and it works better. And the firmware update only takes a few seconds, i too was worried about it shutting down during the firmware update, but do you think apple would put out a update like that. Could you imagine the mess if half of the macbooks died during the update and would not boot anymore? They would not take that chance.
So just do it, it will work for you, and maybe restore some faith in apple.

I wonder if this is a specific to X86 hardware... Does this effect ppc based hardware?
These options have always been there, but I'm not sure they're sufficient to divert this type of exploit (assuming it exists/works, since people are arguing fervently that it's a hoax). The way I understand it, a WiFi device looking to join a network is doing active sensing even when it will only join preferred networks -- this pretty much must be true, since it can join a preferred hidden network, which is not itself broadcasting its availability. So the problem comes when a malevolent entity responds to the ping that the WiFi card puts out. I'm not sure just telling your computer to not join open networks would make any difference at that level. For instance, in analogy, with the BT exploit, one was not required to pair with the device propagating the virus -- just be discoverable.

I don't mind Radio Shack for random overpriced cables in an emergency, but I would never buy anything else in there. The salespeople are just far too pushy and circle around you like vultures attracted to a rotting carcass.

But not widespread at all in the U.S the primary target audience of the first generation iPhone.
It's a pipedream to expect that (LTE) 4G would be widespread in the US even in a year from now. 3G was more widespread at the time of launch of the first Iphone was way more widespread.

This is complete bullcrap, people. Over the air updates will come, but over WiFi. Doing this over 3G makes no sense.
DROIDs already do all updates over 3G and VZW likes it that way.
So if VZW is involved they will opt for updates over 3G
This may mean that VZW will be keeping unlimited data on the iphone, and may have changed their minds about ending unlimited data when it comes to the iphone. I think VZW has noticed that having unlimited data makes them more attractive when competing against ATT+T-mobile merger super company.

I'm sorry, I would buy a iPad 3D, just so I could play Angry Birds in 3D. This coming from someone who vowed never to play nice with the Apple iEcosystem. But if Apple can do it, and HP/Palm and MS are nowhere in sight with their 3D tablets, well... iPad it is I guess.

Its time to make a premium-priced high-capacity iPod touch instead; maybe 256 for some hair-raising price! Yes, HDs are cheap, but you have to make the transition some time! It could even be thicker if necessary; after all, the Classic is already a separate hardware design to build. (I might have suggested a thicker, hard-disk-based Touch, but I think iOS uses the drive in ways that would bog down hideously on a spinning platter. Hmmm... maybe a hybrid drive?)

That just seems wrong. Something looks fishy here. Do you know if it was just that location?
Not sure if it was just this location, but everyone was complaining. The ipads came in single boxes with ipad and apple care inside, so I assume that it is part of the deal with Apple.

First in to Best Buy this morning - manager says the promotion is just a 'reservations' promotion - if you buy a $100 gift certificate they'll put you on the wait list and will call you in next 3-4 weeks when they expect to get stock. Don't bother. Is this not illegal - or just shady practice?

If they put an iSight in the Cinema Displays and axe the stand alone iSight that would mean you would have to buy an ACD just to use the video stuff with the Powermac/Mac pro AND the mini.

Personally I'll be disappointed to see iPhone cameras going much above 5 MP. Image quality and creative options are limited by other factors in a device this small, so what's the point in wasting additional storage space for all the extra pixels? If I want to take serious photos I'll use my Canon SLR.

Wireless updates
Wireless sync
Wireless music cloud
Improved wireless notifications
These things seem likely in iOS 5.0.
My wish list:
Wireless file storage
Wireless charging
Wireless headphones included (haha jk...not likely)
EVERYTHING MUST BE WIRELESS! Lol...then the iPhone would have zero openings. Jony Ive would love that.
Revamped UI, more touch gestures, and more fine-grained settings to customize the phone even further, without needing to jb would be great too. Dynamically updated home screen icons and a new dashboard view for lock screen would be great as well!
I'm switching to Verizon. Are you?

In other words, it is perfectly natural for a believer to think that people are inherently bad. Quite a fine starting point, that. Life itself is continual penitence for something you had no part in. Only by praying, tithing and doing "god's work" can you overcome the hideous burden of your ancestry.
For many Christians, doing "god's work," praying, and tithing doesn't do jack squat if you don't accept Jesus as your personal savior.

Any one see this in da newest iMac??!!! Didn't think so, thank goodness!!! I'll freakin stick to da keyboard!!
Anyone see the Magic Touchpad released without explanation? just wait.
It's no Wacom Tablet
This was only a speed bump. I believe Apple will release Touch Macs (already Apple Inc.) as an additional product line along side standard Macs, to ease the transition.
There will always be keyboards, for keyboard shortcuts if not the obvious bulk text entry. Half the work done by pro-applications (not just Apple's) is done with keyboard shortcuts. It's the mouse that's done for. Apple finally perfect the mouse, and they kill it.
