Anyone tell me what good is a 64-bit processor other than being able to address more RAM. I know a 64-bit address bus alone doesn't make a 64-bit processor.
Not a lot of difference at the moment is the short answer. Usually the benefit of 64 bit chips is that they also come wwith more registers or bigger caches, or more fucntional units etc etc which is where the performance increase is.
I also heard these are not "true" 64-bit processors, just the same old x86 processors w/ 64-bitty goodness added on. Any truth to this?
You're a died in the wool macophile right? :D These C2D (the real Core architecture, the CD was a beefed up pentium M) are pretty highly developed chips with some very nice features. Go and read arstechnica.com you'll be impressed.

A touch screen desktop would be too gimmicky for Apple.
What I can see happening is using the iPad with a Remote App for controlling Apple TV. An evolution of the current Remote App for iPhone/Touch that lets you control the iTunes library on your desktop.
The iPad remote would offer screen mirroring, so you can see what content is currently playing on your TV while moving freely across your house.
It could also offer supplemental content; even video and background info, that you could see displayed on your iPad while the actual media content plays on the Apple TV. This way, the iPad could act as a little support screen that cues in background info at the right moments, e.g. in a movie, without disrupting the actual movie experience or cluttering up the screen (as additional content on DVDs does).
That would be pretty cool : )
As for the iMac, the next step would be trickling down quad-core processors to the 21" models and pleasepleaseplease offering a non-glossy screen.

Hmmm, so I wonder what will the pricing be for those that don't jump to 5.5? Will 5 to 6 be priced the same as 5.5 to 6? What will be cheaper?
I looked at going from Master Collection CS 4 to CS 5.5, especially as I have a spare Mac license that I'd rather upgrade... that cost is $949.
O U C H.
It's too early to say what CS5->CS6 will be; it could be the same $550 or it could be $950.
Future upgrades might just be the Web Premium package and sticking with the standard CS5 releases for the non-essential apps.
But, as they sell less, they'll just raise the prices again. As if that will magically increase market share in return...

Here is my setup
http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd515/nikumba/room.jpg
Dell 2001FP on the left hooked up to my Win7 machine under the desk
Samsun SyncMaster 2494HS on the right, now connected to my MBP that is over on the left of the desk, using a standard PC keyboard and mouse with the MBP at the moment.
The little black keyboard is a USB with trackball hooked up to the Win7 machine.
So far this is an experiment to use my MBP as my primary machine rather than just a laptop, so far so good, have sorted most things out I think.
I will eventually get rid of the Dell and but the MBP on the stand and have the Win7 machine hooked up to the VGA input on the Samsung monitor
Also ignore the dust :)
Kimbie
If you're getting the rid of the Dell monitor, as long as it's still in working condition, let me know… I'm interested :D

I was already on the phone with Apple and they said the page is bogged down and to give it some time to cool off. My battery was in the range, Apple told me it was, and the app still doesn't work. Save some time and try again tomorrow or later tonight when people should be asleep.
I guess that you're awake when I'm asleep (and the other way round)... in fact... it's 01:10 right now and I need to get up at 7:45... better go to bed and give the rest an opportunity to visit the battery exchange pages ;)

I think it's kinda cool that iTunes reintroduced Beatles music to people who perhaps hadn't thought of them since they were young. I bought a few songs. I wasn't too into the Beatles when I was younger, but watching the documentary and remembering my dad singing Beatles tunes got me pumped. Who knows, maybe some kids who had never heard them before will like them.
So much ******** about musical tastes. You like what you like. I happen to like Lady Gaga also and appreciate that I may not be the audience for Justin Bieber and that does not make him garbage.

Well I think the phrase significantly improved is a opinion.
Whether OSX been improved "significantly" or not (I notice you fail to offer an opinion of your own), any improvement is better than none, which is precisely how much improvement Windows users have been granted by Microsoft over the last five years. Again, we're being led to be believe that this is somehow a superior state of affairs. I don't know who buys this argument, but I sure as hell don't.

Man, Apple keeps getting lower and lower. First Walmart, now this?
What does it matter? The more sales the better, right?

Wow. Here's a cookie.
Chocolate chip cookie? Those are my favourites! :)
Given that Clear Channel banned 4 Beatles songs in the wake of 9/11, the billboard prognostication by R0bert was slightly amusing.
luv ya bunches! xoxoxo

Gah!! This gapless playback thing is annoying me. I upgraded as soon as the keynote finished and it's still analysing my library (37825 songs). What's it even for?!
Um, albums that don't have gaps in... Dj Mixes, live performances, soundtracks etc...
It's actually an incredibly nice feature that millions of people have been waiting for.

Yeah, is it possible to *watch* keynote as it happens, cause I don't wanna miss t, I wanna feel the suspense, or at leas thow long after Keynote will we know details?
Cheers
Unless you are THERE, YOU CANNOT SEE THE KEYNOTE LIVE. IT WILL BE PUT ON APPLE'S WEBSITE 2 HOURS AFTER THE KEYNOTE ENDS.
MACRUMORS WILL UPDATE US AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE AS TO WHAT IS HAPPENING AT WWDC..
THERE WILL PROBABLY BE A FEW LEAKS BEFORE THE KEYNOTE BEGINS...
I'M CLARIFYING THIS FOR THE 100'S OF PEOPLE THAT KEEP ASKING THE SAME QUESTION!

Yes, I like to have it all with me.
I listen to music for 9 hours a day when I'm at work and used to get frustrated with my old 60GB iPod photo because I only had half of my collection with me. I've had my 160GB classic since 2007 and I'm now down to my last 5GB of free space.
A new 220GB classic in September would be perfect timing. :D
i'm not 100% sure, but you could swap the hd on your photo with a 240gb hd,
many have done this before.
(i'm sure you can do it with the "thick" 5g ipod, the 4g ipod may have a different hd connector)
i think the 5g ipod is the best piece of engineering ever made to listen to music outdoor.
i've never liked the "innovative" split screen software on 6g (classic), and my 80gb was somewhat slow and suffered click wheel issues, never fixed.
i really regret i've sold my 5g 60gb white ipod.. i've paid it 450 5 years ago!!!

They sent the cover right away, 5 weeks earley, it was on the same order, that way they could charge the card for the sale earley!
If you can't afford a $40 cover on your card for a few weeks you really shouldn't be trying to afford an iPad. Again, aapl.....doesn't......charge....the......card....until......the......specific......item...
.....ships. But nice try.

1) Using USB Wlan card.
2) Connects the Mac to the Dell using similar card (can you say self written drivers?) using already set up IPs and settings.
3) Attacks the Mac (how do we know he just doesn't have Windows sharing on and log into existing account on the Mac?).
4) Had they used two Dells', who'd go see their video? Using Macbook gave them maximum exposure and hits.
Cheap publicity stunt!

If they increase the amount of RAM to 1GB they could increase the amount the integrated graphics use to around 128mb, the current 64mb is a bit low.
The 64 MB quoted for the GMA950 is actually a "sliding window". It can (and often does) request a larger chunk of video RAM from the memory controller as required. Out of that chunk, the GMA950 slides around its 64 MB window to adjust which areas of memory it can directly manipulate at any given time.
(According to Apple's website, simply booting MacOS X on a MacBook or Mac Mini causes the graphics system to commandeer approximately 80 MB of RAM.)
__________
BTW, that's the reason why computers running the GMA950 chipset will be able to run Windows Vista using the new Aero interface, despite the fact
that systems with dedicated video RAM of less than 128 MB will have to use the Classic (Windows 95/98) interface.

Does anyone in Australia (or anywhere else similar) know exactly when your education discount no longer applies for uni? Your last day of classes? Your last exam? Graduation day 2-3 months later? Because I should be finishing in February and I wanted to know how long to hold out. Will Leopard be out by Jan/Feb? Or at least a free upgrade for laptops purchased late Jan/early Feb?
The day of your last Exam. Or, your last day of classes, whichever is last.

I was going to say that 3D movies seem like a temporary fad to me and this really isn't necessary. But I guess there are more uses for this than simply movies. For instance rotating molecular models in 3D would be nice.
