I thought if you were a first time H1-B filer, you need to go to your country of origin for stamping...correct me if I am wrong.

Emailed my attorney immediately and he said that as long as the checks do not bounce the application is going to be OK.

It does not matter to the USCIS if the checks do not have the same address as on the I485.

thats sigh of relief for me.
My friends attorney did'nt file his 485 unless he got new checks with his address imprinted on them.poor guy had to order new set of checks.
Not sure why attorneys do this

I know that applying for citizenship is not mandatory..you can have a PR and continue to be so for as long as you like....Is there a shell life for PR ...can you keep renewing it indefinitely ?

Yes. One can be on PR till the last day on earth provided fulfilling all obligations as PR. One does not have to be a US citizen.

I know of an acquaintance who worked for a reputed client w/o SSN for 4 months. He eventually got his SSN 6 months after applying. This was in NJ and his was first time H1B.

I dont think so, SSN is mandatory, without SSN # how will they pay social security taxes, and how will they run pay roll, ssn is absolutely need for work authorization. Without ssn if you work it is not legal.

i dont think you will get the copies of I140, it is owned by the company and they have every right to keep it. Nothing much you can do about it, its perfectly legal for them to do that. If its a desi lawyer you might have change of getting a copy but most of the lawyers will not suggest your company to give it. i went through the same, my company was ok with giving me the copy but the lawyers suggested against it.

I agree that capitalism is the first american value..... and IMHO it is the only one that works........ Look at France and the old European countries vs the new EU countries that were part of the Warsaw pact who adopted complete capitalism instead of the hybrid capitalism/socialism........

The only exception to the above rule would be China......... and we need to see where it goes over the next 50 years.

I can bet that if USCIS came up with a plan where they would adjudicate labor, I140 and 485 in one month guaranteed for a premium fee of say 50k, most employers would come up with a way to pay the same and recoup part of it from the employee. Those on an H1 working for consulting companies where they pretty much work for a percentage of the billing would take a loan, max their cards out and do it.

IS it possible to send to TSC even though 140 is approved in NSC. Looks like 80 percent of applications go to TSC. Can we even choose where we can send?

you can renew your DL by showing a copy of H1 receipt and letter from employer regd employment. DL office clerks dont know this so your lawyer might have to call their supervisor. take your 140 along as well, actually all the documents.
one of my co-workers got it renewed based on H1 receipt. and we are in FL.

With the launching of IV Tracker tool for it's registered members, IV has taken the right step in becoming the one-stop portal for all issues related to EB immigration.

Hi, my I-485 approval might be close according to current processing time. I have moved within the same city. I wonder whether change of address at this time will cause any delay:
1. how likely due to change of address, my I-485 processing will be affected and got delayed?
2. how likely I will get a REF due to change of address?
3. Is it better to make an effort to keep the old address?

Notify the change of address - If USCIS finds out that you have moved and did not notify with in 10 days of your move then they have the power to revoke and deny your petition.

Situation - During the month of July, I filed my 485 when all categories were current. Got my receipt too. Missed wife's application because her papers were not ready. Now priority dates have retrogressed again.

Saving grace - Our H1/H4 are in order with many long years left on them.

Question - Can I file my wife 485 now as a dependent, even though "my" PD is not current yet. The core point is that, does the concept of PD applies to the dependent 485 applications too?

OR do some pro-bono sites for people who will reach a lot of people (and help out some needful people at the same time)...

such as churchs, community groups, that kind of thing... then place a subtle ad on each of these sites, and then of course on your portfolio...

They never need know how old you are...

I certainly don't tell them I'm 40... :P
